Who we are
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers was formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1888. Its first Canadian local was formed in 1890 in Stratford, Ontario.
We represent over 40,000 Canadian workers in air transport and a wide range of manufacturing sectors including aerospace, automotive parts, electronics, and heavy machinery.
AIM also has a growing number of workers in health care, hospitality and service.
We have 600,000 members in North America.
The IAM proposes a new approach to trade unionism. We are a democratic organization, which focuses on continuous training of our union representatives by giving them better tools to defend the interests of our members.
We are committed to creating a dynamic union by making improvements in work environments of our members.
